XenApp (Citrix) double clicking an application, nothing happens

I will post this article in English because I think it’s more found and recognizable in English terms then in “Dutch”. When I was searching for a solution for this phenomena I found MANY tips where most of them where off-topic. I come across it multiple times: “When I double click the (Citrix) icon, nothing happens”; “Sometimes this happens once, sometimes I need to double click it as much as 5 times”.

This can happens because of the Citrix Web Interface 5.3 combined with the installation of .NET Framework 1.1.x or 4.0. See the following article:

http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX123921

This also counts for the Secure Gateway (mostly installed in a combined installation in the DMZ) and it even goes further.

When you have a Netscaler or Access Gateway in your XenApp environment, the used “Farm” name in the web interface is “Case Sensitive”. Especially when you come use some load-balancing (for example, two web interfaces used with round-robin) this one is tricky. It makes finding it even harder.

Last, but not least, when you have a XenApp server which isn’t accepting clients anymore, the application can’t be started. In this situation you will be facing the same problem (more on this one later). The only thing you can check is doing a network trace to see there’s a reset coming back from the XenApp server were it was supposed to start.

Feel free to contact me about this one!
